Employee Q&A: Lucy Clarke

29.1.2025

We’re excited to dive into a round of Q&A with Lucy Clarke, a talented and passionate M&A Associate at InterFinancial. In this post, Lucy shares her insights on the daily grind, the rewarding aspects of her role, and the challenges she overcomes. Join us as we explore what it’s like to be an M&A professional and discover the motivation behind Lucy’s career path.

Can you describe your typical working day?

A typical working day varies depending on the transactions I’m working on and their stages. I could be drafting an investment memorandum, researching potential buyers or targets, preparing a pitch, or managing the flow of documents in a dataroom.

What do you enjoy the most about being an Associate at InterFinancial?

The variety and complexity of the work makes every day interesting, and I am fortunate to learn so much from my colleagues.

What are some of the most complex or high pressure situations you’ve encountered in your role and how did you handle them?

The negotiation and due diligence stage of a deal can be very intense and stressful – our clients are running their businesses while also responding to hundreds of questions and managing access to a huge amount of documentation. Staying organised, calm and focused on clear communication is critical to navigating these periods successfully.

What motivated you to join InterFinancial?

I had been wanting to transition to M&A for a while and joining InterFinancial was an easy decision due to the team – they’re supportive, pragmatic and great to work with (there’s also a cupboard full of Tim Tams).

Tell us one thing about yourself that most people don’t know.

My family and I lived in Dubai for five years, from the time I was 7 to 12 years old.

Lastly, what piece of advice would you give your younger self when you were starting your career in corporate finance?

I’d say absorb as much as you can. Be a sponge, keep your eyes and ears open, and don’t underestimate the value of observing and listening. Practical experience is invaluable, and building strong foundations early will set you up for future success.

On the floor at EvokeAg 2026: Luke Harwood’s reflections on Australian Agtech
