Employee Q&A: Natalie Knight

25.6.2025

She’s not one to chase the spotlight. But for the past nine years, Natalie Knight has been a quiet force behind the scenes at InterFinancial. As our Administration Officer, she brings structure, calm and a sense of order to the everyday chaos that comes with managing a busy advisory firm.

From coordinating packed calendars, preparing meeting rooms to organising our always enjoyable team activities, Nat keeps the wheel turning and the team on track. Since joining the team in 2016, Nat’s steady presence has become something we all rely on. Her attention to detail and ability to juggle competing priorities make her a key part of how we work, especially when the pace picks up.

Today, we’re taking a moment to hear from Natalie about her time at InterFinancial, the small details that matter, and what she’s learned along the way. Let’s dive in!

What does a typical day look like for you in your role?

Coffee first, always. That’s non-negotiable. Then I usually start by checking emails and calendars to get a sense of what the day looks like, and where I’ll be needed the most. From there, it’s a mix of things from scheduling, emails, bookkeeping, and jumping into support the team wherever I can.

How do you approach staying organised when juggling multiple tasks and priorities?

This sounds cliché, but for me it really comes down to planning and prioritising. One little rule I like to follow is the ‘Two Minute Rule’. If something can be done in two minutes, I just do it straight away. It helps keep the small stuff from piling up and makes the day feel a lot more manageable. It’s so easy to put off the little things, but they add up quickly!

What’s one behind-the-scenes challenge of working in a busy M&A firm that people might not realise?

It’s definitely fast-paced especially on the admin side. What people might not see is that we wear a lot of hats behind the scenes. On any given day, we’re jumping between being EAs, in-house tech support, travel coordinators – you name it. We’re usually juggling a million things at once for multiple people, but somehow, we make it all work.

What’s your favourite part of working at InterFinancial?

Hands down, it’s the team. We’re such a diverse bunch with different backgrounds and experiences, but it just works. The camaraderie we have is what makes the team and company thrive. And of course, creating a bit of office shenanigans with the senior team, just for giggles.

If your role had a secret superpower, what would it be and why?

Time manipulation! Not just for my role, and I’m sure many others would agree, but time really is either your best friend or your worst enemy in this industry. Being able to manipulate time would help with so many things imagine being able to hit pause, rewind or fast-forward. It would make juggling deadlines, improving accuracy, and staying on top of collaboration so much easier.

When you’re off the clock, what do you do to spend your time or recharge?

You can find me fishing on the Sunshine Coast. Or at home with a good book, but I’d much rather be up on the coast!

Lastly, what’s one piece of advice would you offer to your younger self?

I’d say, “Embrace the journey, not just the destination”. When you’re working in fast-paced environments, it’s easy to get caught up in what’s next and forget to enjoy the moment like the small wins, good company and everything in between. Every day really is an adventure.
