InterFinancial advises WGA on its sale to AtkinsRéalis
14.10.2026InterFinancial has acted as exclusive advisor to WGA (Wallbridge Gilbert Aztec) on its sale to AtkinsRéalis, the global engineering services and nuclear group.
WGA (Wallbridge Gilbert Aztec), an employee-owned engineering consultancy operating across Australia and New Zealand, was sold to AtkinsRéalis Group Inc. (TSX: ATRL), the global engineering services and nuclear group formed from the combined heritage of Atkins and SNC-Lavalin. The transaction, which also captured WGA’s New Zealand operations and LDE, completed on 14 September 2026.
WGA is a regionally embedded, employee-owned consultancy with more than 40 years’ history and over 800 people across Australia and New Zealand. It works across transport, water, power, ports, defence, buildings, resources, urban development and sports infrastructure. In November 2025, WGA acquired LDE, a 120-person engineering and science consultancy.
AtkinsRéalis is a global engineering services and nuclear group, listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and headquartered in Montréal. It provides engineering, advisory, project delivery, digital and asset lifecycle services across its international network. WGA retains its name and local teams in Australia and New Zealand, now with access to that network.
WGA’s scale, regional footprint and breadth across transport, water, power, defence and urban development made it a strong acquisition target for AtkinsRéalis, given its intent to grow in the APAC region.
As an employee-owned firm, WGA’s shareholder base spanned a broad group of active employee shareholders. The transaction was implemented by way of a scheme of arrangement.
“InterFinancial did an outstanding job in driving the process from start to finish. It was a complex transaction, and throughout the journey they provided thoughtful guidance and practical solutions that helped us navigate key decisions with confidence. They worked hand-in-hand with our board, management and other advisors to keep things moving at pace, and when it came to price and the terms, they combined strong negotiation skills with creative thinking while preserving the positive relationship we had built with AtkinsRéalis. The result has placed our business in an excellent position for future growth and success.” Ben Stapleton, Joint Managing Director of WGA.
Deal team: Sharon Doyle (Executive Chair), Brad Shaw (Executive Director), Michael Kakanis (Director), Will Conroy (Associate)
